Elliston, Newfoundland, Canada. Puffins migrate inland to mate and raise their young before returning to the open seas. The only time the puffins come to land is during their mating season. Otherwise, their life is spent at sea. Male Puffin will squabble over mating rights by locking beaks. In one instance, a Puffin grabbed another by the scruff of its neck and pushed it over the edge. Luckily they can fly. The crashing surf of the Atlantic Ocean against the rocky cliffs at Elliston Cove is an ideal location for the Puffins to dig their nests. Puffins are one of the few birds that burrow into the ground to build their nest. The three Puffin colonies in Boavista were The Lighthouse, Spillars Cove, and Elliston Cove.
