2019-10-21 Fall colors on the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Brevard, North Carolina with Chas Glatzer. Learned how to make sure to not clip the highlights while creating HDR bracketed shots. Using live view depress the shutter halfway, this shows the first frame of the bracket, adjust the exposure until the histogram just touches the right side. Then make the exposures. The best dynamic range for Canon cameras is ISO200 which is native. this gives at least 2/3rds more dynamic range to the right, highlights. Also lower the contrast in the picture style, the histogram is always reflective of the JPEG preview. For wildlife and landscape the best picture style in-camera is neutral, with contrast set as low as possible in-camera. This provides the widest dynamic range reflective in the histogram possible. Thank you to Chas for these tips.
